Column method reminder: line up the digits (ones under ones, tens under tens), start from the RIGHT, carry or exchange when you need to. Show your working — working is thinking made visible.
47 + 36 =
125 + 248 =
306 + 597 =
82 − 45 =
253 − 127 =
500 − 268 =

Animal word problems (underline the numbers, decide + or −, then solve):

1. The wildlife park has 148 flamingos. 36 more arrive. How many now?
2. A whale dives 245 metres, then comes up 78 metres. How deep is it now?
3. The ant colony has 500 ants. 173 leave to start a new nest. How many stay?

⭐ Missing digit mystery: fill in the missing digits.

4 _ + 2 8 = 75      1 _ 3 − 4 7 = 116

Times Tables Detective

Fill in the grid (row × column). Then be a detective about yourself: circle the ones you got stuck on — those are YOUR facts to practise this week. Everyone has gap facts; champions just know theirs.

💡 Trick: stuck on 7×8? Flip it — 8×7 might feel easier. Every fact has a twin!

Multiplication & Division

Name:

Multiplication and division are the same fact wearing different hats: 6 × 4 = 24 means 24 ÷ 4 = 6. Know one, get one free.
23 × 4 =
56 × 3 =
124 × 5 =
48 ÷ 4 =
96 ÷ 8 =
135 ÷ 5 =

Animal word problems:

1. Each octopus has 8 arms. How many arms do 7 octopuses have?
2. A zookeeper shares 84 fish equally between 6 penguins. How many fish each?
3. Spiders have 8 legs. A web has caught the attention of 56 legs' worth of spiders. How many spiders?
4. A stable has 4 rows of 15 horse stalls. How many stalls altogether?

⭐ Remainder alert: 3 friends share 26 dog treats between their dogs equally. How many each, and how many left over?

Fractions — Pictures First

Name:
Date:
A fraction is just "how many pieces out of how many". Bottom number = pieces the whole is cut into. Top number = pieces you're talking about. That's it. That's fractions.
1. What fraction is shaded?
2. What fraction is shaded?
3. What fraction of the bar is shaded?

Your turn to shade! Divide and shade each bar:

Shade ½:
Shade ¾:
Shade ⅓:

⭐ Which is bigger — ½ or ⅓? Draw two same-sized bars to PROVE your answer. (Hint: more pieces = smaller pieces!)

Fractions of Amounts

Name:
Date:
The method never changes: ÷ by the bottom, × by the top. So ¾ of 20 → 20 ÷ 4 = 5, then 5 × 3 = 15. Divide-bottom-times-top. Say it like a spell.
½ of 18 =
¼ of 24 =
⅓ of 27 =
¾ of 20 =
⅖ of 30 =
⅔ of 21 =

Real-life fractions:

1. You get £12 pocket money and save ½. How much do you save?
2. A dog shelter has 40 dogs. ¼ get adopted this month. How many found homes?
3. A 30-minute cartoon is ⅓ adverts (outrageous). How many minutes of adverts?
4. ⭐ A game costs £24. In the sale it's ¼ OFF. What's the sale price? (Careful — two steps!)

The Mixed Challenge

Name:
Date:
Everything, mixed up — like real life. Read each one carefully to spot WHICH operation it needs. Score yourself at the bottom.
1. 154 + 267 =
2. 7 × 9 =
3. ½ of 46 =
4. 400 − 178 =
5. 72 ÷ 8 =
6. A penguin colony has 60 penguins. ⅓ are chicks. Chicks eat 2 fish a day each. How many fish do the chicks need daily?
7. Cinema tickets cost £6. You have £20. Can THREE of you go — and if so, what's the change?
8. ⭐ Boss level: a farmer has 96 eggs. He puts them in boxes of 6, and sells each box for £2. How much money if he sells ALL the boxes?

Tutor note

The workbook deliberately mixes bare calculations with worded versions of the SAME skill — transfer is where SEND learners most need explicit practice. Ten minutes daily beats an hour weekly.
