Printable · cut along the dashed lines
Twelve cards, built around our own animals rather than cartoon faces — because it is easier to believe a thing about yourself when a real animal does it too.
How to use them. Print, cut, and keep them somewhere reachable. Pick the one that is true today rather than the one that sounds best. The small line is there to be read aloud, or covered up, or written over — whichever helps.
Blank backs are deliberate. A card someone wrote themselves beats a card we wrote for them.
I can do hard things slowly
Gary does everything at his own pace. Slow still gets there.
Curling up is allowed
When it is too much, Gary curls up. Then he uncurls. Both are fine.
My voice is worth hearing
Rosie says what she thinks. Loudly. Nobody minds.
I can ask for company
Rosie hates being on her own and says so. Asking is not weak.
I am allowed to take my time looking
Elvis watches for ages before he moves. That is not being slow. That is being careful.
I can change how I look to how I feel
Elvis changes colour with his mood, and nobody tells him to cheer up.
I need rest and that is not lazy
Mimi sleeps most of the day so she can be brilliant at night.
I am allowed to like the dark and the quiet
Mimi does her best living when it is dim and calm.
I am good with animals
And animals know it.
I noticed something today
Noticing counts. Write it on the back.
I asked for help
That was the hard bit. You did it.
I stayed when it was hard
Not leaving is a whole skill.
