A classroom animal can bring a topic to life and build empathy and responsibility. But schools carry duties that a home doesn't — so the choice has to be safe, low-stress for the animal, and manageable across weekends and holidays.
Good, low-fuss options

- Giant African land snails — fascinating and hardy (check legality and always wash hands).

- A written risk assessment for handling and hygiene.
- Handwashing before and after contact; awareness of zoonoses and allergies.
- Holiday and weekend care planned in advance — who takes the animal, and where.
- Welfare first — a quiet retreat space, and never using the animal as a "reward" prop.
